Von Passed Away on April 3, 2010

A note from Von's daughter

"Saturday, April 3rd my father passed away.  He had been doing as well as expected up until a few days ago.  I was in Dallas and my mom phoned me yesterday to ask if I could fly in before Monday.  I was able to book a flight for this morning and landed at 10:30 a.m.  A friend of my Mom and Dad picked me up at the airport and got me to the care center by 11:00.  My mom and I were by Dad's side holding his hands as he passed at about 12:15.  He left us peacefully and knew that he was not alone. Mom and I both know he is where he is supposed to be and that brings comfort to us.

I am grateful that the staff gave my mom guidance and knowledge during the last 24-48 hours.  I am thankful that I did not miss this last chance to see him and that she and I were there by his side.  He has been well cared for and attended to over the last month and a half at each facility.  Thank you all for the numerous thoughts and prayers.  Family and friends are so important and I see the outpouring and it warms my heart.  I know my mom has a strong network and I know she will get through this difficult time because of people like you."
